I'm not sure it this is a good idea. I like more the "old" approach instead of this new one (packaging all).
First, as far I know this is not the idea of a package installable by menuconfig. It can be easy misunderstood by the users.
Secondly, I think the files/ directory inside qmp repository should be used for customized files and directories. So an user can
easy add his own files to this directory and remove the one he does not want to have.
Because of that the files inside files/ are not really needed by the system.

And what I definitely don't see right is the dependency between qmp-small-node and qmp-ssh-keys.
So, if someone wants to use our package in other system, he needs to install the keys too? Which is the sense of it?

I think the files should be identified in a package instead of being mixed in the "files" directory.
Sorry, you're right, it's not a good solution that qmp-small-node package depends on qmp-ssh-key package. I thought it was a temporary solution for not re-building all .config of qmpfw.

The OpenWRT way is to use a files/ directory placed on the root of the buildroot environment.
Why do not to use the same approach? I think the custom files must not be inside a package, it makes not sense for me.
A simple directory containing the custom files is easy an clean for the user.

I see you have leaved shadow and passwd files into files/ directory. Which is the difference between ssh public keys and these files? For me is the same... But I think it is easy to see that to package passwd and shadow makes not sense.

I haven't created a package for these changes yet. But I thought about doing it.
I think that removing the files in the 'files' directory and unselecting the package have the same difficulty.
If we rely on packages, you can select or unselect what you want without knowing what files are involved.
I think it could be a good idea, but if you don't like this idea of packaging these files, I'm sorry, I can revert my changes.
